On 10 September 2019 the LMAA held a seminar jointly arranged with Maritime London at the offices of Reed Smith LLP. The seminar took place as one of the events within the framework of London International Shipping Week which was successfully staged for the third time and which attracted a record number of overseas participants.

The LMAA/Maritime London seminar debated the topics of “fairness” in London maritime arbitration with speakers Ms Cycy Yuan, General Counsel of Shanghai-based crane and port equipment manufacturer, Shanghai Zhenhua (ZPMC), Dr Han Wenhao, Partner in the London office of Zhonglun Law Firm and Dr Aaron Cai, Senior Outreach Officer of the British Consulate-General in Guangzhou. The session was chaired by Mr James M Turner QC.

The second topic, with presentations by Ms Karina Albers and Ms Thor Maalouf, concerned the implications of the development of artificial intelligence and information technology for the conduct of arbitration in the future. 

The final panel session chaired by Mr Kieron Moore of the UK Defence Club concerned the expansion of the pool of LMAA arbitrators and the skill required from London maritime arbitrators. Panellists were Mr Arthur Bowring, Mr Ben Goss, Ms Daniella Horton and Mr George Lambrou.
